House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) tried to appeal to House Republicans who were hesitant to vote for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act by invoking the late Sen. John McCain’s vote against repealing the Affordable Care Act.

Republicans in the House of Representatives advanced US President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill toward a final yes-or-no vote early Thursday morning, appearing to overcome internal party divisions over its cost.

By Wednesday evening, enough Republicans remained opposed to the Senate’s version of the bill to effectively stall its passage in the House.
