The Guadalupe River's flash flooding during the early morning hours of July 4 decimated several local camps and other popular visitor destinations on one of their busiest days of the year.

Camp Mystic owners successfully appealed to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to redesignate some buildings that had been considered part of a flood-hazard zone.

At least 120 people were killed and more than 160 people are believed to still be missing.

For now, many Mystic alumni, counselors and even parents of campers who survived the horrors at the Christian girls’ camp have continued to express fierce loyalty to the Eastlands.
