Matt Moore is a decade removed from being an All-Star starter for the Tampa Bay Rays, but the veteran has shown enough flashes as a reliever that the Boston Red Sox were willing to take a flier on him.

Third base prospect Tyler Miller blasted a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning off of Tampa Bay Rays reliever Jack Hartman at Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte, Florida, Saturday, to give the Boston Red Sox a 6-4 victory over the Rays in Boston’s first game of the Grapefruit League schedule.

The Red Sox signed Matt Moore to a minor league deal on Thursday. Moore, a former All-Star all the way back in 2013 with the Tampa Bay Rays, has rebuilt himself as a relief pitcher in the second act of his career.
