Gibson's seven poetry books and seven spoken word albums touched on themes of love, social justice and queer identity.

Tributes poured in from friends, fans and fellow poets who said Gibson’s words had changed their lives — and, in some cases, saved them.

"Though Andrea desperately wished to have lived a longer life, they could not have possibly lived a fuller one," Gibson's family said.
